Social ads or search ads: which one first?

Short answer

If people already search for what you sell, start with search ads, because they catch people who are ready to buy. If your product is new, visual or an impulse buy, start with social ads, because they create demand. With a small budget, pick one, run it well for a month, then add the other.

The real difference

Search ads appear when someone types what they want, like "birthday cake near me" or "interior designer for 2BHK". The intent is already there; your job is to be the best answer. Social ads appear while people scroll. Nobody asked for you yet, so your job is to stop the scroll and make them want it.

Start with search ads when

  • People already look for your service by name (clinics, repairs, coaching, real estate, B2B services).
  • You serve a clear area and want calls, bookings or enquiries.
  • Your offer is a considered purchase, and people compare options before choosing.

Start with social ads when

  • Your product looks good on camera: food, fashion, beauty, home, gifts.
  • You are launching something new that people don't know to search for yet.
  • You want to build an audience you can retarget later.

How to spend a small budget well

  • One goal. Calls, orders or enquiries. Not all three.
  • One audience or area. Narrow beats wide when money is tight.
  • One clear offer. Give people a reason to act now.
  • Two or three creatives. Test them, then put the money behind the winner.
  • Measure leads, not clicks. A cheap click that never calls is not cheap.

When to run both

Once one channel is bringing steady results, add the other. Social ads build interest; search ads catch people when they come looking later. Together they cover the whole journey.

A good partner keeps your ad budget separate from their fee, so the money goes straight to the ad platforms and you can see exactly where every rupee goes.
